The original Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament was completed in 1889. The $34 million historical renovation of this Italian Baroque cathedral included rebuilding of the main dome which is one of the most conspicuous features of the newly restored cathedral.

The original plaster dome was completed in 1889. Later in 1939, the plaster dome was removed and recovered with a plain semi flat ceiling. Fortunately, the original wood structure above the dome was not removed and simply covered for 66 years waiting for its renewal.

Ceilings Plus unique 3-D engineering and manufacturing talents and vast experience working with acoustical perforated metal was a helpful solution to this renovation.

Dome panels were shipped as a non-painted mill finish, to be covered in painted canvas by EverGreene. Behind the panel is 2" thick, 1 1/2# density fiberglass with black PVC bag.

The artist, EverGreene selected perforated metal as their structure of choice to apply their hand painted artwork. Ceilings Plus was called upon to engineer and fabricate the 60 diameter compound curving perforated dome. The panel joints and tee bar construction was carefully coordinated with the artist to have a monolithic result. The fabric was hand painted in New York and then carefully applied to the installed perforated metal ceiling dome.
