PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract including General and Supplementary Conditions.
1.02 SUMMARY
A. This section describes the requirements for providing the suspended metal ceiling systems as indicated on the drawings and specified, to include:
1. Modular wood ceiling panels
2. Suspension assemblies
3. (Optional) Sound absorbing materials
4. Accessories; provide all other necessary items including devices for attachments to overhead construction, secondary members, splines, splices, connecting clips, wall connectors, wall trims and all other devices required for a complete installation.
5. Coordinate items penetrating or being integrated into ceiling systems with responsible trades.
1.03 Quality Assurance
A. Reference Standards:
1. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM):
a. C635 Specifications for Metal Suspension for Acoustical Tile and Lay-In Panel Ceiling.
b. C636 Practice for Installation of Metal Ceiling Suspension Systems for Acoustical Tile and Lay-In Panels.
2. Local Building Code, current edition requirements.
3. All woodworking materials shall meet the requirements of the Architectural Woodworking Institute. (AWI) AWI and/or WIC.
1.04 Submittals
A. Comply with the requirements of Division 1, Section 01300, Submittals.
B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product descriptions and specifications for metal ceiling system.
C. Samples: Submit full size ceiling panel minimum of 12" long showing straight edge detail with an attached suspension system and perimeter trim member in the specified finish.
D. (Optional) Mock-up: Submit a full size production quality ceiling panel for an area of 10' x 10'. Mockup shall include all required accessories for a complete installation, including suspension and trims.
E. Shop Drawings:
1. Provide properly dimensioned shop drawings showing ceiling layout. Show all locations, markings, quantities, materials, sizes and shapes and indicate all methods of connecting, anchoring, fastening, bracing and attaching to work of other trades. Shop drawing submittals to be on computer aided design systems and furnished on computer disks. System shall be compatible with that of the architect.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Project design is based on materials and systems of Ceilings Plus, Los Angeles, CA 800-822-3411, www.ceilingsplus.com
Other manufacturers must be approved prior to the bid in written form, by the architect. Specified manufacturer's standard of quality and manufacturing tolerances shall be criteria for evaluating "equivalent" product.
2.02 WOOD CEILING PANELS
A. Wood Panels, "Grillz" by Ceilings Plus
B. The wood members shall be sizes shown on drawings and
spaced as dimensions shown. The wood members shall be constructed of solid wood and
manufactured in adequate thickness to achieve wood member sizes shown.
C. Finish: All wood member faces, sides and ends to
be finished with a clear, two-step sealer and top-coat after fabrication.
Field finish all field cut members, as may be required, to properly seal
wood members.
D. Tolerances: Maximum deviation of the completed ceilings from level shall
not exceed 1/8" in 10' when measured with a straightedge placed at
any location on the finished surfaces. Maximum deviation shall not exceed
1/4" from level in any area or room.
E. Accessories: Provide all other necessary items including devices for attachments
to overhead construction, secondary members, splices, splicers, connecting
clips, wall connectors, wall angles and all other devices required for a
complete installation.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSPECTION
A. General Installation:
1. Materials shall be installed in strict accordance with procedures recommended by the manufacturer and requirements of agencies having jurisdiction. All materials for this section shall be from a single source-ceiling manufacturer with minimum 5 years experience with products of the nature specified.
2. Attach supporting channels of adequate strength to construction above by approved connection method according to local building codes.
3. The contractor responsible for the work of this section shall be qualified and experienced in the performance of this work and done so for no less than a period of 5 years.
B. Product Handling
1. Delivery: Deliver wood ceiling materials to jobsite in unopened containers identified with product manufacturer's name, trade name and other applicable identification.
2. Storage: Store all materials in dry and protected locations until installation. Relative humidity should be approximately 50-55% at 70 degrees F (21 degrees C). Store away from direct sunlight. Install when space is completely conditioned, clean and free of airborne particles.
3. Remove and replace units that have been damaged or cannot be satisfactorily cleaned to the owner's or architect's acceptance, at no additional cost to the owner. To clean materials follow manufacturer's written cleaning procedures.
C. Maintenance
1. Maintenance instructions, as written by the manufacturer, are to be left with the building owner.
